#BODYEMPOWERMENT

#bodyempowerMENt was devised by a group of students working on the Grand Challenges Gender Inequality week at the University of Exeter. It is primarily a response to the current treatment of male body image in the media and society in general, and what was perceived to be a lack of response to this issue. We feel that whilst there is still a significant journey for the representation of diverse body types, on social media platforms and in fashion, for example, efforts to push for diverse male body types and acceptance of this is lacking.

To begin to address this problem, we devised a questionnaire to gather data from Exeter to contribute to wider online research. This collection of photographs aims to promote positivity and acceptance and promote the important discussion surrounding body image. We also wrote to our local MP, Ben Bradshaw, to encourage him to engage with the project and its social media presence.
